The Bread is Rising + So Are the People

Good Day Cool People,

Fire In The Village has been working hard sparking an idea and making it reality: A tour of art, music, poetry, and frybread.

Frybread came about in hard times, when The People were being removed from their lands and forced onto Reservations, forts, and open air prisons. The way of life was about moving with the seasons. The People moved from late summer rice camp on lakeshores to their winter homes. Spring led them into the maple tree stands to make maple syrup and sugar. Summer was for berry picking, medicine gathering, and fishing.

The relocation of The People decimated this way of living. Instead of being able to move with the seasons, The People were given rations of flour, baking powder, lard, sugar, and salt. Add some love and you get FRYBREAD! Frybread is a symbol of survival, resilience, and resourcefulness. Frybread reinforces the fact that we have outlasted them!

Hard times have now come upon many people in these “United States.”

Fire In The Village presents the Magical Frybread Drive-In tour. We will kick it off in Duluth, MN on the roof of the American Indian Community Housing Organization (A.I.C.H.O.) with the Water Protector mural as our backdrop.

We will also visit Minneapolis, Aitkin, Bemidji, and Grand Rapids. Please come and break bread (literally) with us!

Visit our tour page for details and ticket info. If you’re a person who earns lots of American dollars, please feel free to customize your donation amount accordingly. If you are a person who doesn’t earn enough American Doll Hairs please feel free to customize your amount to Zero.

Come to a Magical Frybread Drive-In near you and bring your magic. We can outlast these times we are in.
