Annie Humphrey (Fire in the Village) is creating Leech Lake Rez's first ever horizontal mural on the basketball court near the pow wow grounds in the village of Ball Club
On Saturday, August 29th, we'll celebrate the finished mural with a 3-on-3 family basketball tournament - frybread, music, and a fashion show on the court! - featuring Leech Lake designers Annie Humphrey and Anthony Rivera, and acclaimed designer Amber Buckanaga (Buckanaga Social Club).
This will be much more than just a mural unveiling, it will be an intentional bridge-building event and celebration of village life. The tournament will feature teams of families and community leaders from Ball Club and nearby villages, along with invitations to non-Native groups who don't usually come to the Rez to experience Anishinaabe culture and community, including non-native artists and staff from MacRostie Art Center, tribal leadership, and local law enforcement from the Rez and nearby communities.
